Legal

Terms of use

You may use ordinary public Placeholder.photo outputs in personal and commercial projects, subject to fair use and applicable law.

Service availability

The service is provided without a guarantee of uninterrupted availability. We prioritize compatibility and durable URLs, but may limit abusive or technically harmful use and may change undocumented behaviour to protect reliability.

Acceptable use

Do not use the service to attack infrastructure, evade limits, distribute unlawful material, impersonate real organizations, mislead people about endorsement, or create automated demand intended primarily to exhaust shared resources.

Brand and output

The Placeholder.photo name and watermark remain Jansma VIP product identifiers. Public unbranded rendering is not offered. Generated mock logos and avatars are temporary design aids and should not be represented as verified real identities or endorsements.

Operator terms

Placeholder.photo is a Jansma VIP product. These product-specific terms sit alongside the Jansma VIP Terms & Conditions where those general terms apply.

A little placeholder history

Same useful idea.
A much bigger toolkit.

Jansma VIP ran a compact generator at placeholder.jansma.vip from 2024. It handled the classic size, colour and text URLs that now remain supported by Placeholder.photo.

  1. 2022An unrelated earlier developer project used the Placeholder.photo domain.
  2. 2024Jansma VIP launched its own small generator at placeholder.jansma.vip.
  3. 2026The independently built Placeholder.photo platform brought Classic, procedural art, photos, logos and avatars together.

This is an independent new implementation—not a claim of ownership over the earlier 2022 project. The nostalgic panel is a faithful visual nod, rebuilt with today’s Placeholder.photo URLs.
