Placeholder links often escape prototypes and live much longer than anyone expects. We therefore favor deterministic output, versioned algorithms, local assets, immutable caching and backward compatibility over novelty that silently changes.
Independent history
Placeholder.photo was previously used for an earlier placeholder image project. The domain was later released and independently registered by Jansma VIP in 2026. The current Placeholder.photo service is a new implementation built and operated by Jansma VIP. It does not claim ownership of the earlier project or reuse its proprietary source code.
Before this launch, Jansma VIP operated a compact placeholder generator at placeholder.jansma.vip from 2024. Its useful classic URL patterns remain compatible here.
A Jansma VIP product
Jansma VIP builds and operates websites, hosting services, reputation support and practical digital products. Placeholder.photo has its own product identity, while Jansma VIP remains the transparent owner and long-term operator. Learn more about Jansma VIP.
Self-contained by design
Core rendering, scripts, styles and image assets are hosted with the service. Normal generation does not call stock-photo APIs, external avatar services, font CDNs or live AI endpoints.
